Roman governors for the Province(s) of Britannia

Introduction
The province of Britannia was one single entity from AD 43 to around AD 197 when it was divided into two provinces, Britannia Superior and Britannia Inferior. In AD 293 it was further sub-divided and for much of this later period the control of the various areas was often taken by people usurping power from the Emperors in distant Rome.

Evidence for the names and sequence of governors is not complete. The data is derived from Roman historians and epigraphical sources and thus there are gaps and ambiguous entries. The latter part of the Roman occupation is particularly poorly represented. The information given is therefore subject to new findings and reinterpretations.
